As the manager of a team of people your main aim is to get the job done through others. But we’ve all encountered teams where this doesn’t work as well as it needs to.
Teams are made up of a collection of individuals, each with their own needs, wants, personalities, values and aspirations. Balancing the needs of each individual with the needs of the team as a whole and your business can be challenging.
I can support you with the development of your team so that they work more effectively together to achieve your business goals. My tailor-made team development days can be designed to develop effective team working and a sense of team spirit, to improve communication within the team, and to reduce conflict.
Team development events
These events offer a day away for your team packed with lots of opportunities to learn more about themselves, each other and the business – and plenty of fun. I can incorporate a range of exciting tools into your event including either Jigsaw Discovery Tool or MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator).
The following overview describes what might happen during a typical 1 day team development workshop, aiming to develop participants’ understanding and appreciation of each other so that they can work towards becoming a more effective team.
Completing either the Jigsaw Discovery Tool or the MBTI inventory beforehand, and receiving feedback on it begins to enhance each team member’s understanding of themselves, their motivations, their natural strengths and their potential areas for growth. We are able to produce a range of reports to support different needs including communication style, conflict style, personal impact and stress management.
The workshop helps your team to appreciate how each of us has a preferred way of making sense of reality and how we have developed a personality strategy that informs everything we do. Participants recognise themselves with a degree of clarity that will amaze, even shock; but after the shock comes the realisation that they have an array of drivers and abilities which are characteristic of their preferred personality type.
Having looked into the mirror and discovered more about themselves and the characteristics of their personality type, the workshop will be designed to help participants appreciate people who differ from them. They begin to develop the skills to identify the personality drivers of their customers and colleagues.
These workshops incorporate a range of activities tailored to your team’s needs which encourage co-operation and collaborative working. These help participants learn and practise the skill of adaptation; moving away from their natural dominant style towards the style of the individual they are communicating with.
Finally, if required, I can support teams by producing a Team Profile Report which can be used to drive and direct future team development activity. I am also able to provide further support to individual participants to incorporate their new understanding into their everyday lives through a programme of one to one coaching.
